Services from a registered psychologist are covered by many employer or privately purchased extended health care plans. You can contact your extended health care plan provider to learn about your coverage, including whether you need a medical doctor's note to activate your coverage.
N.B., where psychological services are covered by third-party payers, if clients also have an extended health care plan, then typically the third-party coverage is only activated once extended health care coverage is exhausted. This means that clients may need to pay for services out of pocket and then be reimbursed by their extended health care plan until coverage is exhausted, after which the services are covered by third-party payers.
Assessment:
Private assessments are billed at a flat rate ranging from $2,500 to $3,500, depending on the scope, complexity and purpose of the assessment. The structure and total cost will be discussed with you before you agree to proceed with an assessment.
Assessments completed for third-party payers such as a client's legal counsel are billed on a case-by-case basis.
Letters and Other Documentation:
Letters and other documentation such as treatment progress reports or disability forms are billed on a case-by-case basis depending on the scope and complexity of the documentation.
Methods of Payment:
Payment is due at time of service unless other arrangements have been made. I accept payment by cash, cheque or e-transfer and will provide you with an invoice that includes my name and registration information (including registration number) that you can submit to your extended health care provider for reimbursement. In some situations, expenses that are not reimbursable may be deductible as medical expenses on your personal tax return.
